I finished my cake last night It came out very well, though there were a few things about it that could have been better. The finish on the orange fondant I laid on the outside was peppered with air holes, or possibly tear holes. It dried out too much between when I colored it and rolled it out. The smaller batches of black and green that I used for stem, face, and leaves were just fine.
The cake was also only about half as tall as I envisioned it. That's fine, cause a double batch would have been way too much cake, but it's just not as pumpkin-like. It looks like one of those sad, flat little mini pumpkins that isn't good for carving or eating, just for sitting on a shelf like a gourd. But there was enough room for a face so it's all good.
I will probably make another one for Thanksgiving, a double batch so it is taller like I wanted. And I will have pictures of that one! But it won't have a face on it, because that wouldn't fit the holiday.
Oh, and it was delicious

Changing Plans
With just a week and a half until I go to Europe I've been looking at the curtains and figuring out that I really don't want to risk spending the time (and most importantly the money) just yet until I can figure out what the Christmas budget is going to be, and how much I am about to end up spending on my vacation. Buying premade curtains would be well over $400 for the whole apartment and would make a poor insulator; buying fabric and a foam blackout curtain liner (because if I don't save money on heating this winter the whole project was pointless) is $200 before getting all the rods and other hardware, not to mention the time assembling it
More plans
So I got my RO fanart finished a while ago. It came out ok, though having been looking at anatomy and proportions recently, it seems really off. Fine for anime, but her waist is about ready to snap and her head is a little big.
My carpets are getting cleaned today, courtesy of being stuck in the same apartment for another year, and I'm ready to start looking at curtains. I found this fabric online and I really like it: http://www.quilteddragon.com/fabric/Marcus%20Brothers/mb_sun__moon_267-116d_bamboo_grn_goldmet_795.jpg I think that pulled back from the window over a plain beige or off-white sheer panel would look very nice, and not too gaud
Sorry, more teasers instead of art
I've just felt like all the creativity has been drained from me the past week. My husband has been in Europe and I've had only my cat to keep me company. Discovering the forums here didn't help much either. Trolling is my worst habit :noes:
I'm getting better though. When I got home today I made a Christmas ornament out of an eggshell. All I have to do is put a border around the jagged cutout window to keep it from looking broken, and make the clay piece that I want to hang inside. Unfortunately, since taking pictures of ancient Roman architecture is more important than my little ornaments to put on the internets, I have no camera. So
New scraps!
Check it 8) OK so there's only one scrap. But I think it's awesome. I made my own clay scraper!
